OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this training, the trainee will be able to -
- understand and explain the differences between the two Social
Security disability programs
- identify commonly used Social Security acronyms
- explain Social Security decisions and communications to
consumers
- assist consumers in dealing with Social Security appeals
- assist consumers in filing for reconsideration and/or waiver of
Social Security overpayments
- assist and train consumers to advocate for themselves with Social
Security
- understand and explain the difference between Medicare and
Medicaid
- calculate a monthly SSI check, given the recipient’s other income
- counsel SSDI/RSDI beneficiaries and SSI recipients concerning the
impact of returning to work on their cash benefits and health care
- determine if a consumer is eligible for, and could use, the SSI
PASS provision
- assist eligible consumers in developing and submitting a PASS
- identify other resources and organizations that could help
consumers with Social Security issues
